At the 2024 Colorado Association of REALTORS Spring Summit, during the Critical Thinking session, 43% of attendees identified lack of professionalism and competency at the TOP issue Colorado REALTORS face today.
As a member of the Critical Thinking Committee, I heard from many licensees who felt that it should be harder to get into our industry. That requiring more education hours or a college degree would raise the caliber of the folks who help others buy and sell real estate. I and the Division of Real Estate disagree. Having worked as a REALTOR for 21 years, I’ve known highly degreed individuals or those with many designations but who’s business ethics were severely lacking, and folks brand new to our industry who are the most professional people I know. REALTORS have the Code of Ethics and Pathways to Professionalism to show us how we should treat the public, our clients and each other. Lack of professionalism is a management issue — we haven’t set and consistently communicated our company’s expectations with our agents.
